Meet Lindsay Connery: A Nashville Plant Enthusiast

The variegated Benjamina ficus likes to be fertilized during the growing season, and pruned to encourage healthy growth.

Lindsay, a vibrant 39-year-old stay-at-home mom, is on a journey of rediscovery. As her teenage kids venture towards adulthood, Lindsay is rekindling her passions, finding solace and joy in her plant room that inspires her creativity. Nestled in the heart of Donelson, Tennessee, Lindsay's story is one of nurturing, growth, and a blossoming love for all things green.

A Homegrown Affair with Plants and Art

Lindsay's love affair with plants was cultivated from a young age, thanks to her mother's influence. Her childhood was filled with greenery, and it's a legacy she carries forward with grace and enthusiasm.

The "umbrella plant" (Schefflera) care: bright, indirect light and water only when the top inch of soil is dry.

"I love art too, so my plant room doubles as my craft area," Lindsay shares. A creative at heart, she's woven her artistic flair seamlessly into her plant sanctuary, making it a space that not only thrives with greenery but exudes creative energy.

With a keen eye for diversity, Lindsay boasts an impressive collection of 26 potted plants, not counting her water propagations. Her favorite types of plants tend to gravitate towards the Ficus and Schefflera varieties, a testament to her evolving plant journey.

The Watermelon Pepperomia (Peperomia argyreia) is a popular houseplant known for its striking foliage resembling the pattern of a watermelon rind.

Lindsay has the coolest water propagation station set up on this shelf. You snag one just like her propagation station for yourself here.

In case you missed it, we have a blog on keeping your indoor potted plants happy. “When to Repot Your Houseplant” can be found here.

A Decade-Long Connection with Her Oldest Plant

Lindsay proudly shows us her oldest plant, a variegated Benjamina ficus, now a decade in her care. "Probably the plant I'm most proud of," she muses. This ficus has not only thrived under her nurturing hands but has also given birth to new life, as she successfully rooted and grew a non-variegated section from it.

As any plant parent knows, rearranging and tending to your houseplants is an ongoing process. Lindsay is no exception, currently in the midst of a rearrangement project that promises to infuse even more life and greenery into her cozy plant haven.

Discovering Community Through Nashville Plant People

Lindsay's journey into the world of plants extends beyond her personal sanctuary. She's an active member of our Nashville Plant People (N.P.P.) community, where plant enthusiasts from all walks of life converge to share their love for plants and nature.

When asked about her motivations for joining N.P.P., Lindsay admits, "I'm not exactly sure; I just knew I wanted to connect with others in Nashville who love plants too." Our supportive and helpful online community has provided her with a platform to share her passion, exchange tips, and connect with kindred spirits who share her enthusiasm for all things botanical.

Sourcing Plants: A Mix of Local and Online Finds

Lindsay's plant journey takes her to various sources, both local and online. Her favorite local haunt for acquiring new additions to her green family is JVI Secret Gardens, where the quality of plants and the knowledge of the staff never fail to impress her.

Online, Lindsay's go-to platforms for plant purchases include Etsy and Amazon. Her advice when shopping online is to consider vendor ratings carefully, aiming for those with four stars or more and a minimum of 20 reviews. This prudent approach ensures that she only adds healthy and thriving additions to her plant collection.

Lindsay's Journey into Botanical Magic

Lindsay's love for plants extends beyond their physical presence; she's also deeply drawn to the enchanting world of plant magic and "Plant Witchery." This mystical realm explores the age-old connection between plants and spirituality, delving into the profound ways in which flora can be harnessed for healing, divination, and inner transformation. "Plant Witchery" unveils the secrets of plant-based spellwork, herbal remedies, and rituals that have been practiced for centuries by those who understand the deep, mystical energy plants possess.

In essence, "Plant Witchery" is the art of blending botanical knowledge with spiritual wisdom to tap into the profound energies and innate magic found in every leaf, petal, and root. It's a journey that invites us to not only appreciate the beauty of plants but also to harness their spiritual power for personal growth, healing, and connection with the natural world.

Stepping Out of Her Comfort Zone

Becoming a Featured Plant Person for N.P.P. was a monumental step for Lindsay, one that involved stepping out of her comfort zone. "It's been a long time since I felt comfortable in my own skin, so to speak," she shares. But with the support of the N.P.P. team, including Lindsey (Lucid Linds and Nashville Plant People) and Bella (Gumball Media), Lindsay embarked on a journey of self-acceptance and rediscovery.

Reflecting on the experience, she says, "I've never felt more beautiful." 💚

Words of Wisdom from a Seasoned Plant Parent

As someone with an ever-expanding plant family, Lindsay offers a valuable piece of advice: "Don't love it too hard." Plants, she emphasizes, are remarkably resilient and forgiving. Sometimes, in our eagerness to care for them, we can unintentionally cause harm. So, let your green companions thrive at their own pace, and remember that they often flourish with a little space and minimal fuss.

A Journey of Self-Rediscovery

As Lindsay continues her journey as a loving mom, devoted wife, and plant enthusiast, she's also venturing into new territories, finding herself once more. Her story is a testament to the power of nurturing passions, connecting with communities, and embracing the beauty that resides within. We thank Lindsay for sharing her inspiring journey with us and look forward to witnessing the continued growth of both her plant family and her own personal exploration.
