Gifting Green; Nashville Plant People’s Holiday Guide

Welcome to Nashville Plant People’s 2023 Holiday Gift Guide. This gift guide was fun to create as I just looked at my own wishlist and also scoured the internet for plants and plant related gifts that I myself, along with all of my plant friends, would love to receive for Christmas. Of course many of you reading this are also plant enthusiasts, so feel free to nonchalantly pass this along this along to the person shopping for your green gifts this year, ha!.

I hope to help fill our community of plant friend’s stockings with the best plant-y presents. Things that plant people actually want under the tree this year, you know the kind of presents that true plant people can really dig their gardening gloves into. Ok, ok enough with the puns, no matter what the master gardener or beginner green-thumb on your shopping list looks like, there’s definitely something perfect for your favorite plant person (or yourself) on this year’s gift guide. Tap those green buttons for easy online shopping. Happy Green-Gifting y’all.

Monthly Plant Subscription Boxes

From month to month to 6-12 month subscriptions these plant box subscriptions make a fantastic gift. I was once gifted a 6-month subscription and I was always so excited to open my delivery each month to see what type of new plant and pot I had received. You can even select the “pet-friendly” plant option, pick the color of pot or choose a hand-painted terra cotta pot, and a saucer is included too. Sometimes they even throw in surprise tools and gifts.

The Decorative Propagation Station

Do you have a plant friend with window sills filled with glass bottles and jars holding water and trimmings of plants? If the answer to that is yes, then that means you have a prop-addict on your hands. It happens to the best of us plant-heads. We can’t help ourselves, when we know we can make new baby plants from the ones we are already growing, so we start to snip and never stop. This cool 3-tiered, wall hanging plant propagation station holds 21 test tubes. It’s wall art with a plant-y purpose, believe me, your plant propagating person will love it!

The Perfect Potting Mix

The ideal gift for the plant enthusiast in your life is this pre-mixed Houseplant Chunky Mix from Sol Soils. Yes, we promise, if they love houseplants they will actually really love receiving a “bag of dirt” for Christmas. This potting mix is tailored for tropical houseplants. Crafted with recycled coconut chips and coir, this mix ensures optimal moisture and drainage for houseplants.

Plus Sol Soils is committed to the environment – with every purchase, a tree is planted in deforested regions worldwide, thanks to their partnership with One Tree Planted, we can all help our plants and the planet thrive with Sol Soils.

An At-Home Lion’s Mane Mushroom Growing Kit

This is a FUN-gi one (get it?). It’s also perfect for growing something in the winter when our beloved houseplants go a little dormant and stop growing so much. So if you are searching for the perfect gift for the plant-lover who also loves to cook you can introduce them to the magical Kingdom of Fungi with an easy at-home Lion's Mane Mushroom Grow Kit! Lion’s Mane Mushrooms are a delicious way to boost your health. These functional fungi have already been proven to fight memory loss, encourage neurogenesis, and improve cognition, focus, and overall mood. Recent studies also suggest that Lion’s Mane can be used to treat conditions such as ADHD, Brain Fog, and Alzheimer’s!

A mushroom grow kit is the perfect gift for anyone ages 4+: just cut along the dotted line and spray 2x daily to grow gourmet mushrooms at home! Whether they’re a seasoned gardener or more interested in culinary adventures, these grow kits are the perfect way to bring the farm-to-table experience home. Check out some FUN-gi recipes here.

10 Piece Garden Tool Set

Whether you are shopping for a new-to-gardening person, or an avid green thumb, this full kit comes with all the necessary tools. Even if they have been gardening for years I can promise you there is a tool or ten that they have misplaced or buried by accident that they have been meaning to replace. When it comes to digging in the dirt you can never have too many tools to help get the job done.

An Indoor Composting Kit

This indoor composting kit is great for the eco-conscious, apartment-dwelling, plant enthusiast in your life. Instead of stinky food scraps in their trash they can have a thriving ecosystem right in their home reducing waste, mitigating landfill contributions, and fostering a sustainable lifestyle.

Beyond its environmental benefits, this kit provides homemade worm castings known as “Black Gold” for healthy, happy houseplants. It’s also an educational gem for children. Kids can embark on a fascinating hand-ons journey of discovery, learning about the natural cycle of decomposition and ecosystems with their new pet worms. Which also makes Worm Bucket a perfect classroom gift for teachers too!

A Helpful Plant Caddy

This 14 inch plant caddy will help your plant friend who may need help moving their bigger potted plants. Does the plant person on your list have large plants that they like to move indoors in the winter and outdoors in the summer? Trust me, anyone who has bigger plants will appreciate a plant caddy to help move those heavy potted houseplants. It’s like you are helping them move their heavy plants, even when you are not there.

The OG Butt Planter

Believe it or not, booty planters are very on trend among plant people. You will find an array of unique gifts on Esty.com, and you can easily search for all sorts of plant-related items, including lots of 3D printed pots, whether that’s in the shape of a tushy or Danny Devito’s head (yeah, that’s a thing too).

For the Sweet or the Scrooge on Your List

This line of merch has been created by one of our own Nashville Plant People, Precious. I adore her and her perpetual message about being kind to ourselves and other people, so I couldn’t leave off one of her most recent creations. She has hats, sweatshirts and coffee mugs too. This tote is multiple purpose for groceries, packing a lunch or of course your plant friend’s next plant shopping excursion.

Let Them Decide

Maybe you’re not a plant person, but the person you are shopping for is. You can’t go wrong with a giving them a gift card to Modern Sprout. From live plants, grow lights, and home decor to plant care accessories and grow kits, the plant person on your list will definitely be able to find something on their plant parent wishlist.

At Nashville Plant People, we also love Modern Sprout for their continued efforts to keep sustainability efforts front and center from their products to their business practices.

The Wishlist Plant

You know that reaction that people have when they receive a puppy or a kitten for Christmas? Well this plant, the Monstera Thai Constellation, is the equivalent to a new puppy or kitten for a plant person. Watch your favorite plant person squeal with excitement when you tell them to close their eyes and hold out their hands on Christmas morning. Even if you know nothing about houseplants, we can promise you that you will get all the brownie points for this one, not to mention how impressed your plant recipient with be with you.

BWH is an online plant shop and you can save 10% when you use Code: nashplantpeople at checkout. These always sell out fast, so hurry. And if the Monstera Thai Con’s are sold out, they always restock pretty quickly, so you can always grab a e-gift card (and save 10% on that with our special code too). Or your plant person can snag a different plant with their gift card too. Use our NPP code to save a little jingle in your pocket.

A Must Have Potted Plant Tool

Don’t worry, your houseplant fanatic will know exactly how to use this tool to help aerate the roots of their plants as well as monitor if their larger houseplants need water. No batteries needed, no assembly required. Its the most useful yet simple tool in every successful plant person’s tool set.

For the Book Worm Who Also Loves Plants

If the person on your list not only loves houseplants, but also loves having plants in every room in their home, this beautiful coffee table book, Houseplant Oasis is for them. This book, written by Melissa Lo, combines how to care for houseplants with gorgeous styling tips and tricks too. This great to have as a reference guide, to offer inspiration for styling in your home and it’s lovely to have on display in a curated home as well.

Super Cool Plant Stands

The ultimate spot for your plant-fanatic friend. This is a 2 pack of plants stands, so they can be put together for an interesting design or placed in separate places so it becomes like two gifts in one. Each side holds 10+ plants depending on their size and how they are arranged. This makes a great gift for anyone who needs more space for plants or for someone with a greenhouse or sunroom. Any plant person who collects plants would love this gift.

Another Book All Plant People Want

Hilton Carter has become a plant-person “guru” for many of us plant heads with his interior plant designer influence. He’s brilliant and funny. Personally, I want all of his books. You can get this one in hardcover starting at $24 on Amazon or you can aim to truly impress your plant friend and get them a signed copy from HC’s website, here for $60.

As I conclude our NPP Holiday Gift Guide for Plant People and Gardeners alike, I hope it has served as a delightful source of inspiration for finding the perfect green thumb gifts. Whether you're treating yourself or spreading joy to fellow plant enthusiasts, may these carefully curated selections bring warmth and cheer to your holiday season. There are a few affiliate links on this list, but any commissions earned is quite small and goes right back into our Nashville Plant People community efforts, just FYI. ;) Here’s wishing you a joyous and green-filled holiday celebration! Happy planting and Happy Holidays!
